A virus that enters a healthy live cell takes control of the metabolism of the cell and begins cellular activities to its own advantage. This process can be blocked, if the cell is prevented from producing energy, which will disable virus to thrive in the cell.
Bitter gourd juice can interfere with the glucose metabolism in the cell. This will starve the cell of energy and kill the affected pancreatic cancer cells.
Mouse models of pancreatic cancer were fed with bitter gourd juice. They were 60% less likely to develop the disease than other mice that were not given the juice.

ആഗ്നേയഗ്രന്ഥിയുടെ കാന്‍സര്‍ ബാധിച്ച എലികള്‍ക്ക്‌ പാവയ്‌ക്കാനീര്‌ കൊടുത്ത്‌ ശാസ്‌ത്രജ്ഞന്മാര്‍ പരീക്ഷണം നടത്തി. ഇവയില്‍ കാന്‍സര്‍ ബാധ വര്‍ധിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള സാധ്യത സാധാരണ എലികളിലേതിനേക്കാള്‍ 60 ശതമാനം കുറവുള്ളതായാണ്‌ കണ്ടെത്താന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞത്‌.
